Your Weekly Breakdown

Hello lovelies, we made it! Happy Friday to you.

This is Your Weekly Breakdown, the comfort newsletter for cozy weekends, now part of the Culture section of Hard Copy. It's me, Emily Key, and keeping you in-the-know is my absolute favourite thing to do. In addition, expect The Sunday Edition in your inbox - there, we'll share our favourite reads from around this weird little hot mess express we call the interwebs.

As always, I've got a great line up of things to entertain you: a few fantastic books to consider, great TV to binge, and some fantastic music to be the background for whatever blissful weekend montage you are putting together!

Hope there's something in here that tickles your fancy. You can email me anytime with feedback, thoughts, or recommendations of your own.

Until next time, take good care,

Emily @ Hard Copy

Recommendations

📺 Watch

Ripley starring Hot Priest aka Andrew Scott is top of my TV list so far in 2024. Highly recommend as we don't often get such stunning episodic Noirs these days. Also, Dakota Fanning!

For my luxury fashion-loving ladies, The New Look explores the rise and fall of Christian Dior, pitting him against Coco Chanel. Come for Juliette Binoche and Maisie Williams' unreal acting chops, stay for the stunning and historic archival fashion.

While I was lukewarm on Palm Royale, it's grown on me. It's lush, it's mindless, it's fun! The cast alone is worth giving it a try - hello Carol Burnett!?! Kristen Wiig is an obvious standout.

🎧 Listen

Maggie Rogers' latest album is out today! Don’t Forget Me is going to be on repeat, even after Taylor drops her album next week. Maggie is fresh, mellow, and you'll hear something different every time you listen.

I completely missed The Black Keys dropping their new album Ohio Players! Beyoncé dominated the scene for the past few weeks, and rightly so. I can't tell you how happy I am thought to have these talented rock stars filling my ears. Such a great spring vibe, and their cover of I Forgot to Be Your Lover is sexy as hell.

New to me is Alena Spanger and her album Fire Escape, notably outstanding as a debut. It's dreamy and sparkling and playful, all things we should try on for the spring season.

📚 Read

Waiting for certainty is often the riskiest move. Amanda Sims wrestles with the idea of trading in the lure and consistency of corporate comforts for the adventures of freelance life in Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained.

In Splinters: Another Kind of Love Story, best selling author Leslie Jamison wraps us up in her intimate memoir exploring how to move forward into joy when we are haunted by loss. As a mother, artist, teach, and lover, she explores the many meaningful relationships in her life.

India Knight’s Beauty Edit: What Works When You’re Older by writer India Knight is the book I wished I had as a 13-year old, the implied age in the title be damned. You think I can keep up with the best beauty tips? Nope. This book is fantastic for those that get overwhelmed scrolling TikTok for the best in beauty, ie me.
