Cosmic Culture 09/20

Wake up babe, Libra season is finally here! Don’t expect your typical demure start to Fall however-eclipse season rages on through mid-October.

Don’t Call Me Angel

Move over Lana, Miley, and Ariana, there’s a new trio of musical angels in town. On Tuesday, Sept, 17, Victoria’s Secret (VS) announced that its fall comeback runway show would feature an all-women musical lineup (the first in the show’s history), consisting of none other than this iconic mononymous trio: Cher, rising star Tyla, and K-Pop queen Lisa. VS has also teased the potential for other musical performers and hinted that the show looks to embody the high-glam, bombshell energy from the late '90s and early 2000s (through a more inclusive angel-wing adorned lens, of course). For those needing a refresher, Victoria’s Secret canceled its once-popular show in 2019 due to declining sales and scathing public commentary around the brand’s inclusivity and objectification of women. With the recent resurgence of the brand with Gen Z through Renee Rapp, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sabrina Carpenter, however, it seems that VS is primed for a comeback — just as my inner child is getting over her internalized body dysmorphia watching models sashay down the runway in nothing but Swarovski crystals and a thong. The VS runway show is scheduled for October 15.

✨ Cosmic alert: Victoria’s Secret announced its iconic musical lineup on Sept 17, the day of the lunar eclipse in Pisces. Think of lunar eclipses as supercharged full moons reflecting a meaningful culmination point. With Pisces being the sign of creativity, fantasy, illusions, and glamour, this VS musical announcement was very on brand. This lunar eclipse in Pisces also traces back to 2016 - early 2017, just before the wheels came off the VS runway show in 2018. A new cycle has officially begun, but have we learned anything since then, is the question.

Baby It’s You

Joanna “JoJo” Levesque is back. Not with new music (not yet, at least!) but with her oh-so-very candid memoir Over the Influence. The title speaks to the varying levels of influence JoJo had to navigate since bursting onto the entertainment scene at the ripe old age of *12*. From her parents’ addictions to the music industry’s death grip on her career choices and the weight of her emotions amidst peak self-destructive periods, JoJo dives into these moments with rawness, clarity, and self-awareness beyond her 33 years of existence. This year marks 20 years since the debut of JoJo’s album, a poignant full-circle moment as she closes out this chapter and begins anew. Fans will be happy to know that Jojo is back in the studio—and hopes to put out new music soon.

✨ Cosmic alert: As a fiery Sagittarius sun, JoJo’s memoir release during the lunar eclipse in Pisces is a meaningful course correction to her identity and legacy. This eclipse sets the stage for a long-held personal truth (Sagittarius) that lifts the veil to what lies behind the scenes (Pisces). The shadow side of Pisces can include addiction, delusion, and a deep sense of helplessness. Pluto, the planet of transformation and rebirth, is also in the mix, activating the North Star point in her natal chart. It’s time for this old chapter to leave (get out) and for Jojo to be in control of her own life

Don’t Worry Darling

Florence Pugh is opening up about her love life on her terms. In the latest cover interview for British Vogue, Pugh shared that she is currently dating a special someone (though she did not reveal his name); crafty internet sleuths however report that Peaky Blinders star Finn Cole is the leading man in question. It’s a big move for Pugh, whose last relationship with fellow actor Zach Braff came under heavy public scrutiny and bullying (their 20-year age gap took the pandemic world by surprise). She shares that “in this portion of my life, I’m trying to make sure that I’m making all the right decisions so that I can have the thing that I want…which is safety, family, a home, and security.” While we probably won’t get an intimate look at her relationship moving forward, we can catch Pugh acting her pants off in one in her upcoming tear-jerker We Live in Time, co-starring Internet boyfriend Andrew Garfield. Bring tissues and slap on waterproof mascara for the October 11 premiere.

✨ Cosmic Alert: Florence is currently navigating her Saturn Return (cc: Ariana Grande, Kacey Musgraves, Lizzo, and SZA for reference). As a reminder, Saturn is the lord of time (we live in time, get it?), which includes some serious adulting. During one’s Saturn Return (between 28 - 30 years old), one arrives at a distinct maturation point that begs the question: what will you do with your one precious life? (or so the famous saying loosely goes) The point is, Saturn is a tough planetary daddy trying to teach us that we all have a limited amount of time on this earth - what truly matters to you and how will you make a necessary stand for it?
