Playlist: Louise Burns gives us melody, mood, and mystery

I’m the kind of person who must create a sonic mood to go about my day. I simply cannot wake up and fumble around in silence. Sometimes it’s a playlist I’ve made, sometimes it's BBC Radio 3, sometimes it’s generic ambient music to turn my brain off, and sometimes it is classical film scores (to make the mundane feel more grand). Perhaps this is why I chose music as a career… I just don't get sick of it!

Super Bonjour x Mackenzie Walker

I put together this playlist to represent the different moods I like to exist in: 90’s trip hop, grandiose and elegant arrangements, sophisticated pop, nostalgic country and my newest obsession thanks to my friend Emily’s recommendation: Italian soundtrack music. All of them contain the essential ingredients for good music (to me): melody, mood, and mystery.

I released my fifth album last year titled Element, which leans heavily on most of these influences. This year I’ll be in hibernation mode as an artist while working on my sixth record and producing and writing with other artists in between. Listening to music that makes me feel things is essential to my creative output and motivation to keep honing my craft. I hope my playlist makes you feel things too.
