Comfort recos for a cozy weekend
Watch
Causeway is a lot more funny than the trailer lets on. Sure, Jennifer Lawrence is great, but Bryan Tyree Henry (you probably loved him in Bullet Train) is fantastic.
The Banshees of Inisherin is a FILM. It’s like Marvel movies have made me forget what a simple story can do to my soul. I loved this, was baffled and perplexed, and yes I’m very late to the game.
For something equal parts mindless and delightful, enjoy Maybe I Do. Ticket to Paradise was limp but if you love a beachy setting or major movie stars like Julia Roberts or George Clooney, then tee it up!
At long last, Daisy Jones & The Six is out on Prime. The TV series is adapted from the *very fantastic* book. Binge and report back!
Listen
Yes, in addition to the Daisy Jones & The Six show, there’s an album you can binge as well. Regret Me is a decent track.
Every wonder How To Be A Better Boss? The epic Melissa Nightingale has taught thousands how, and she jumped on on Anne Helen Petersen’s “Work Appropriate” pod to share the brain juice you need to conquer. Nightingale was on in late 2022 as well with another great episode on management.
I’ve been vibing to psychedelic rock these past couple of weeks, and I’m turning my attention to ‘psychedelic soul’. I didn’t know these genres existed, but you’ll catch my drift when you flip on Kali Uchi’s new album Red Moon in Venus.
Read
Checkout 19 by Claire-Louise Bennett is the coming-of-age story of a girl learning the power of magic and imagination. Don’t be fooled by the casual air with which Bennett writes; this is a crafty novel.
Trust by Hernan Diaz was as good as my friend Alyson insisted it would be *if* you can make it beyond the first 100 pages. Get ready to question the institutions on which our countries are build and the narratives we tell ourselves about class and capitalism.
For you fashion lovers, a new biopic is out on the late, great Karl Lagerfeld.
If you know me well enough, you know I love gritty tales from behind the scenes. How cool is the prospect of this memoir from a former Metropolitan Museum of Art security guard? Give it to me.
Indulge
I’m no domestic goddess, but these frying pans are the best things to happen to me or my kitchen.
Sonos’ Pro-Ject T1 record player has amped up the ‘vibes’ in my living room, much to my wallet’s dismay. Worth it if you’ve already got the Sonos speakers around the house.
As the president of the itty bitty titty committee, I hereby present to you the best lounging around the house and occasionally walking quickly to the store bra. For those of you more blessed in the chest, the Align bra also comes with more support.
Ps the black and tan version of the Sweaty Betty sherpa coat I mentioned a couple of weeks ago is on sale! Mega.
Makers and raisers of smöl humans
Unicorns are a pretty massive hit in my house, so the kids’ bath robes from Leveret via HBC are a hit.
It’s Body Science slash sex ed time at school. We’ve been working on this activity book at home and it’s been a great conversation starter.
Many moons ago, Cristina Patalas and I started Rainbow Stories for Rainy Days. She’s now fully taken the reins and breathed life back into the very popular kids’ stories podcast. Big shoutout to her, and if you’ve got little 3 and up, they’ll love it.
