📺 Watch

A ton of folks read Laura Dave’s thriller The Last Thing He Told Me, and now we can relive it in TV format. Jennifer Garner stars and I’ll watch just for a visual on the houseboats.

Emma Mackey knocked our socks off in Sex Education, and now she’s absolutely flawless in the latest take on Wuthering Heights writer Emily Brontë in Emily. A period piece about a rebellious woman writer? Okay!

Time for some action! I love Gal Gadot running and fighting and chasing and pouting, so Heart of Stone is for those of us who just want some spicy adventure that includes Jamie Dornan.

🎧 Listen

The Shape of Your Name isn’t Charlotte Cornfield’s latest music, but so far it’s my favourite.. She’s like a more mellow Brandi Carlisle. Maybe microdose and go for a walk in the sun with this album in your ears.

For nearly 4 decades, Yo La Tengo has continually created some dazzling indie rock for the world to enjoy. They throw down in a very upbeat way on their latest album This Stupid World, somehow making the unending doom in the world feel conquerable.

Zach Braff’s Garden State soundtrack has always been a go to, and the soundtrack for his latest film, A Good Person, is a must-listen.

In terms of podcasts, Julia Louis-Dreyfus has a new pod out *perfectly* titled Wiser Than Me in which she interviews / converses with older women. Um, it’s fantastic!!?? We love wisdom. Tune into this great episode with Jane Fonda. Thank you RB and KI for the late addition!! So great.

📚 Read

A masterclass in powerful essays that stay with the reader long after you put the book down. Maggie Smith’s debut memoir You Could Make This Place Beautiful is a magnetic read, guiding us on reflections of loss, finding beauty within, and discovering a renewed sense of faith in the future.

Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann is a non-fiction read being adapted on film into an american western crime drama, directed by Martin Scorcese. I usually avoid anything crime-related because there is enough death and disorder in real life, but this will undoubtedly be a huge movie, so I’m planning on crushing this one with my learning hat on.

My Last Innocent Year by Daisy Albert Florin is a lush coming-of-age novel that explores a dark side of academia and themes of those damned grey areas and blurred lines in the sexual encounters of young women.

💫 Indulge

Have you heard of Anto Yukon soap? Delightfully packaged and beautifully crafted, this Canadian brand is produced in small batches and is about as special as you can get when it comes to special bath products.

I’ll admit: I’ve been influenced. I grabbed a stepper similar to this one last month and it’s been really helpful to get a sweat in when I need to multitask or it’s pouring rain (read: a lot). I usually grab a pair of 5lb weights and rock out for 45 mins or so.

Serge Lutens home spray. This version smells like fresh pressed linen sheets and doesn’t have that chemical smell that some other products have. Definitely incorporating this into my spring cleaning.

🐣 Kiddos

Wholesome screentime alert! Jane on Apple TV+ is an awesome, imaginative series featuring 9 year old “Jane”, a curious girl with an environmentalist's heart who is keen on following her idol Dr. Jane Goodall’s path and helping endangered species.

Continuing on from last week’s newsletter, more goods for the summer! Waterproof shoes are my personal favourite thing ever, mostly because I’m lazy. Let me start by saying I’ll rarely recommend a slide as a shoe for anyone, big or small, mostly because I’m clumsy and would wipe out and I can only imagine small people would too?!

I love these ones from Nike because they are closed-toe (ish) and don’t slip off, which is a huge win for the smaller kiddos. For a more colourful option, these Merrell sandals are sturdy and well made. Confirming that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, my daughter’s favourite sandals are Tevas. No exactly a choice waterproof shoe, but durable and dry fast enough that they get worn 90% of the summer.
